When Defense Minister Rajnath Singh announced the Agneepath scheme on June 14, the government had no idea that it would have to face such opposition. As soon as 48 hours passed, the future Agniveers came out on the road against this scheme and after passing 72 hours, the government started announcing changes in its scheme.
The Central Government launched the Agneepath recruitment scheme on 14 June with great enthusiasm. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh along with the three army chiefs explained the merits of the recruitment scheme in the army. It took a day or two for the youth of the country to understand this scheme. But as soon as the details of this scheme were understood by the youth, they came on the road.
Today many organizations have announced Bharat Bandh in protest against this plan. The most displeasure of the youth is about the service period of 4 years. Apart from the youth, the leaders also said that after starting a job in 18 years, the youth will become unemployed in 22 years, then what will happen to them after that?
On 16 -17 and 18 June, there was such a fierce opposition to this plan that the government came on the back foot. After this, the government made several changes in this scheme one after the other and tried to pacify the anger of the protesting students.
10% Reservation in Defense Ministry Recruitment
The most displeasure of the future Agniveers was what would happen to the 75 per cent of the cadre that were thrown out of the Agneepath scheme every year? The central government tried to find a solution for this.
Defense Ministry has announced that Agniveers who fulfill the required eligibility criteria will get up to 10% reservation in Defense Ministry jobs. This 10% reservation will be implemented in Indian Coast Guard and other civilian posts and all 16 Defense Public Sector Undertakings. With the launch of the Agneepath scheme, many students expressed concern that there have been no recruitments in the last two years due to Corona. Therefore, they will fall outside the purview of the age limit required under the Agneepath scheme.
Explain that the age limit for reinstatement under the Agneepath scheme is from 17 and a half years to 21 years. After this protest by the students, the Defense Ministry made another amendment.
The Ministry of Defense said that the maximum age limit for recruitment under the Agneepath scheme has been increased from 21 to 23 years. However, this concession will be applicable only in the recruitment process of this year i.e. 2022. That is, only for the first year.
Let us inform that this decision has been taken due to no recruitment for the last two years due to Corona. Whereas in general they will be eligible to apply for jobs in the Ministry of Defense for 26 years.
